Journey

  • Athens · Nafplio · Olympia · Delphi · Meteora · Athens

Overview

Connect the great classical sites of southern and central Greece on a five-day private journey from Athens. Mycenae, Epidaurus, Ancient Olympia, Delphi and Meteora form a varied mainland circuit, with Nafplio adding an evening by the sea.

The route moves forward through four overnight stops rather than retracing the road to Athens each day. Travel from the eastern Peloponnese to Olympia, cross to central Greece and finish among Meteora’s rock formations before returning to the capital. It is an active touring itinerary with substantial road travel; six or seven days give more room for unhurried visits.

Athenaos adapts the balance of sightseeing, free time and travel to your group. Choose driver-led touring with independent site visits, request licensed guides for selected days, and discuss the accommodation and extra services you would like included in a single clear proposal.

Itinerary

This is a suggested private itinerary. We confirm the final sequence, visit arrangements and overnight locations in your proposal.

Day 1: Athens, Mycenae and Nafplio

Leave Athens via the Corinth Canal area and continue to Mycenae. Explore the ancient citadel before reaching Nafplio, where the old town and waterfront offer an enjoyable first evening. Overnight in Nafplio.

Day 2: Epidaurus and Olympia

Visit the theatre and sanctuary of Epidaurus, then travel west across the Peloponnese with breaks planned into the day. Overnight in the Olympia area, ready for the following morning’s visit.

Day 3: Ancient Olympia and the road to Delphi

Explore Olympia’s archaeological site and museum in the morning. Continue towards the Rio–Antirrio crossing and central Greece, with comfort stops before reaching the Delphi area. Overnight in Delphi or nearby; additional coastal stops depend on the time available.

Day 4: Delphi and the journey to Meteora

Visit Delphi’s archaeological site and museum before continuing north to Kalambaka or Kastraki. If arrival time permits, pause at a Meteora viewpoint. Overnight near the monasteries.

Day 5: Meteora and return to Athens

Visit selected Meteora monasteries and viewpoints, choosing stops around opening arrangements and your walking level. Return to Athens after the visits, with the final drop-off agreed in advance.

Suggested overnight plan: 4 nights · Nafplio, Olympia, Delphi and Meteora areas. Accommodation is confirmed separately in your proposal.

Good to Know

  • Tailor the journey
Add an extra night in Nafplio, Delphi or Meteora, include Ancient Corinth or Hosios Loukas, or continue north instead of returning to Athens.
  • Plan for the route
Several days combine major site visits with long road journeys. We confirm the sequence around seasonal opening hours and your priorities. Archaeological paths and monastery steps require comfortable footwear. Meteora dress requirements apply; there is no promise of visiting every monastery.
  • Driver and licensed guiding
Your driver manages the road journey and shares local insights. You visit archaeological sites and museums independently unless a licensed tourist guide has been arranged. Tell us which visits you would like guided.
  • Walking and mobility
Passengers must transfer to a vehicle seat. Wheelchair storage, boarding assistance and vehicle suitability require advance confirmation. Tell us about walking limitations, strollers and other mobility equipment before booking.
  • Dates, pace and overnight stays
The duration and overnight locations shown are suggestions. Opening hours, travel conditions and your interests may require changes. Daily driving hours and any additions are agreed in your proposal.
  • Cancellation
Athenaos tours and transfers have free cancellation up to 24 hours before departure. Separately arranged accommodation, admissions and other third-party services follow the conditions stated in your proposal.
